Giving Back: Action in Africa Hosts Community Match, Blood Drive, and Dance-Off
Action in Africa (AIA) lit up the community vibes on Saturday, December 6th, by hosting an incredible Program Awareness Day at the Africa Junior School in Nakuwadde. The day was a vibrant blend of sports, dance competitions, and life-saving community service, all aimed at highlighting the power of collective action.
The air was buzzing with energy as teams from Nakuwadde and neighboring areas Mufumba FC, Goodluck, Best Skills, Kireka FC, Wisdom, Kataka FC, Savior stage, and Lions FC took the field for an action-packed football tournament. The matches were fast-paced and competitive, showcasing the incredible local talent and the unifying power of the beautiful game. But the action wasn't just on the pitch. The Spectators were also treated to a dance competition, where local groups showcased traditional and contemporary moves. Beyond the festivities, the heart of the day was focused on service and communicating our programs to the locals.
A dedicated area was set up for a community blood donation drive sponsored by Mengo Hospital Blood Bank. This vital activity provided a critical opportunity for attendees to directly give back and save lives, underscoring AIA's commitment to holistic community well-being. The turnout was inspiring, with many lining up to make this precious donation.
In a generous partnership with Action in Africa, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) donated five brand new footballs. This donation is a huge boost to the local Nakuwadde teams and nearby youth programs. It serves as a reminder that major organizations are keen to support grassroots initiatives that keep the youth engaged, active, and focused. A massive thank you to FUFA for helping us kick-start a new season of play. Mr.Lukambi Denis, Head of Legal at FUFA, revealed that, “The organization has a proven history of using the game of football to attract, motivate, and train children and youth, thereby boosting their talents and developing their character, the national football association is mandated to manage the game and is dedicated to ensuring every child in the country has the opportunity to play football.”
He added that achieving this goal is dependent on making football equipment (balls) accessible to the youth. “The partnership with Action in Africa is viewed as crucial to fulfilling this dream of accessibility and widespread participation,” he said. The Mass Football segment goes beyond just equipment; it focuses on disseminating knowledge by training: Coaches, Medical Staff, Fitness Coaches, Teachers as the game is learned through multiple avenues, not just on the pitch. Mr. Denis affirmed that the long-term work of the Association, supported by Action in Africa, aligns perfectly with the national association's mission to provide access, training, and a pathway for youth football talent.
Therefore, the Awareness Day was a resounding success, not just in the number of attendees or the goals scored, but in the spirit of unity and generosity that saturated every activity. It was a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when a community comes together. Action in Africa extends its deepest gratitude to every participant, volunteer, donor, and partner who made this day possible. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing our mission to empower the next generation in Uganda.
