Action in Africa Alumni Invest in the Next Generation
There’s a special kind of pride that amplifies when former students who benefited directly from a program turn around and give back. It’s the clearest sign that the seeds we sow are truly taking root. That’s why we are absolutely thrilled to share a recent, deeply meaningful act of generosity: a group of Action in Africa alumni came together to donate $281 USD back to the organization. It is a significant and welcome gift from 18 graduates we have supported from day one until they graduated.
But when that gift comes from our own graduates—the young men and women who utilized The Center’s resources, earned scholarships, and are now building successful careers in fields like engineering, accounting, social work, journalism, and the health sector—it is priceless.
This donation isn't just a financial contribution; it is a powerful statement of belief. Many alumni revealed that the programs at Action in Africa changed their lives. They believe in the mission to empower communities in Uganda and want the next generation of students to have the same life-changing opportunities they did. Action in Africa (AIA) works side by side with local leaders in Nakuwadde, Uganda, to provide essential resources like education, healthcare, and skills training. This alumni gift will go directly into programs that support the current generation of students.
Listen to their behind-the-scenes stories of why they donated back to the organization:

Giving back to the organization is like completing a circle. I want to help create a similar turning point for another young person because someone invested in me; that is why I am where I am now. It's how I express my gratitude to Action in Africa.
Kalema Brian
As a university graduate who benefited immensely from Action in Africa’s scholarship programs, I can testify to the profound learning and growth I experienced. I am driven to see other students benefit from these programs, which are truly life-changing. I recall my path before Action in Africa; in Senior One, I struggled with belonging, joining groups of boys that led to street fighting, stealing, and escaping from school—nearly costing my life.
The scholarship changed everything. Its emphasis on achieving good results in every term's exams redirected my focus entirely to my studies and skill development. This transformation was so complete that I am now the only graduate in my family and can guide my siblings onto the right path. This entire journey motivates me to give back to Action in Africa. Thank you for your unwavering support.

I am genuinely excited to be part of the alumni group, contributing back to the organization that supported my education through graduation. This act of giving is a direct effort to ensure another student remains in school, mirroring how Action in Africa (AIA) consistently secured my own educational journey. It serves as a sign of appreciation to those who provided me with a better life through education and numerous other life-sustaining experiences. The existence of an active, appreciative alumni group is tangible proof that AIA’s support is impactful and that its beneficiaries are ready to uplift others.

I am GeorgeWilliam Nsereko, currently serving as Communications Fellow here at Action in Africa. From my perspective, Action in Africa was more than just an organization—it was a family; it was the foundation that allowed me to build my future. I received key education and support that opened the door to my professional career. Donating back is my way of making sure that the next young person in Nakuwadde has the same opportunity I received.
I want to invest in the future leaders and professionals that AIA is raising. It's about completing the circle of empowerment. I want to ensure that the cycle of learning and success continues for the current and future students at The Center. This year, I have benefited from professional development and capacity building in my field of study through the fellowship program. I firmly believe that Action in Africa has successfully provided every essential need for a vulnerable child like me.

My inspiration to give back comes from a deep understanding of what it feels like to face obstacles without the necessary resources. I have experienced firsthand the transformative power of a helping hand, and I want to be part of that same cycle for others, helping them rewrite their storylines and overcome challenges. Giving back is not a reflection of having 'extra'; it is a sincere expression of gratitude.
It is my way of showing Action in Africa that their investment in me truly mattered. Looking at our alumni group, I am ambitious about our future. Since this was our first attempt at collective donating, I am confident that our contributions will grow as our capacities increase, and I am personally committed to this lifelong mission of support.

I have always wanted to donate, but I was waiting for the right process and path to do so. I consider this donation a true blessing. Giving back is my personal mission, as I am dedicated to supporting the community through Action in Africa. Having personally benefited from Action in Africa's support for vulnerable children, I am now ready to uplift those who feel hopeless, just as I was. Where would I be if it were not for Action in Africa in my life?
Latifah Mirembe
I was motivated to give back to Action in Africa because of the comprehensive support I received, starting with a scholarship in Primary Five (2010) through to university. This organization didn't just fund my education; it fostered my confidence and growth, enabling me to pursue my dreams.
Recognizing that my educational path would have been difficult without their belief, this donation is my way of appreciating those life-changing opportunities. I want to perpetuate the cycle of hope and support so that other vulnerable children can achieve their goals as well.
Moses Musaazi
My journey with Action in Africa began in 2016 while I was in S.3. Receiving that scholarship was a definitive turning point; the financial support, including school fees and a monthly stipend, allowed me to focus entirely on my academic excellence.
This investment ultimately paved the way for my university success. Seeing other children facing the same financial constraints inspired me to pay it forward. I want to see them succeed and eventually join this cycle of 'paying it forward.' AIA did more than fund my education; they built my character and skills. Now, as a graduate, my commitment to giving back is a sincere tribute to the organization that stood by me when I needed it most.
Nakidde Mary
As an alumnus of Action in Africa, I was motivated to give back because of the impact the organization had in my life. I never thought I would reach university because none of my elder siblings did, but this was achieved through the AIA University Scholarship program.
I felt the need to pass on the same kindness I once received. In the future, we want AIA graduates to become more engaged in the organization's activities in all aspects of community development.
Their initiative highlights the vibrant, lifelong relationships we strive to build with everyone who walks through The Center’s doors. Our goal is not simply to provide a temporary service but to invest in future community leaders and contributors. Seeing our alumni step into that role and actively support the organization that supported them is the ultimate measure of success. It is a true full-circle moment that energizes our entire team, proving that the cycle of empowerment and giving is alive and strong.
We are endlessly grateful for the generosity of our alumni. They embody the spirit of self-sufficiency, leadership, and community reinvestment that we champion every day. This act is a wonderful reminder that no donation is too small. Whether you are an alumnus, someone with a few dollars to spare, or a long-time supporter looking to make a difference, your contribution helps keep this cycle of success moving forward.
