Celebrating Excellence: AIA Student Mugisha Lawrence Shines

At Action in Africa, we believe that education is the foundation of a bright future. Today, our halls are filled with extra pride as we celebrate one of our own, Mugisha Lawrence, who emerged as the best-performing student at Mbazzi Riverside High School in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results released in February 2026. Lawrence’s achievement is not just a win for him, but a testament to the hard work, resilience, and limitless potential that we strive to nurture in every student who visits The Center.

Lawrence has consistently demonstrated the values of integrity, curiosity, and active participation in our programs that we steer at Action in Africa. He started attending our programs under the Primary Partnership Program in 2017 at All Saints Primary School. Upon completing his primary education, Lawrence’s potential was recognised early when he became a proud recipient of a Secondary Scholarship.

"I realised early that I have to use this opportunity effectively. Seeing my elder brother’s education journey ending early, it was a wake-up call. I wanted to rewrite that story for our family. My goal was to study harder and go further. I pushed myself to excel because I knew that top marks were my key to unlocking other opportunities for my education through the AIA scholarship program," said Lawrence.

Despite the financial challenges his parents faced in securing school fees before AIA intervened, Lawrence’s commitment to his studies remained unshakable. “I am excited to be joining  Advanced Level, and totally confident that this next step will pave the way for my journey to university," he shared.

Growing up in a household of six, Lawrence understood the financial weight his parents carried. Now, with a scholarship from Action in Africa, he feels a sense of relief and purpose. He views his AIA scholarship as a lifeline, a way to transform his family’s circumstances and pave the way for his brothers and sisters to follow in his footsteps. "Through AIA, I am building a road that will lead my family toward a better life.”

What makes Lawrence truly inspiring is his vision for the future. He is eager to solve problems in Uganda. He currently finds himself at crossroads of two vital paths of becoming a doctor and joining the frontlines of healthcare, saving lives and providing care to those who need it most, and also sees the potential in agriculture, recognising it as the backbone of Uganda. As an agriculturist, he would focus on food security and innovative farming techniques to uplift the community of Nakuwadde.

Lawrence expressed deep gratitude for AIA’s holiday programs, which offer a blend of counseling, mentorship, and practical skills. From crafting bangles and baking to making liquid soap, these projects have even allowed him to earn a modest income. "AIA keeps us engaged and focused," Lawrence noted, explaining how these programs prevent him and his peers from loitering in the community of Nakuwadde. Reflecting on his journey, he added “If it weren't for AIA’s scholarship and impactful programs, I would likely be working on construction sites today or might have dropped out as early as primary school.”

Congratulations once again, Mugisha Lawrence. We cannot wait to see you transform our community, whether it's in a white lab coat as a doctor or leading an agricultural revolution.
