Paddy Kimbowa, Construction Projects Coordinator

Paddy’s journey with Action in Africa began in 2009, when he volunteered alongside his father, John Sembatya, a dedicated community leader and close friend to AIA’s founder, Sarah Nininger. When John passed away in 2012, AIA accepted him as their first University Scholarship student, setting him on a path to achieve his lifelong dream of becoming an engineer.

He went on to earn both a diploma and a degree in Civil Engineering from Muteesa I Royal University. Between 2021 and 2023, he furthered his training in Qatar, gaining an International Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH IGC) and a certificate in Lifting Operations. His career began as a mason in 2014 and progressed through roles including foreman, site engineer, lifting supervisor, and safety officer. He has contributed to major projects in Kampala, Karamoja, Namayingo, and internationally in Qatar with companies such as Midmac Contracting LLC, IMAR Trading & Contracting, and Saipro Steel.

Paddy officially joined AIA’s staff in 2023, bringing his technical expertise and personal commitment to the organization’s construction initiatives. He has led impactful improvements at The Center, including designing a modern, eco-friendly kitchen, a modern pavilion, and overseeing renovations that enhanced safety and beauty for students and staff. He now plays a vital role in AIA’s most ambitious undertaking yet: the construction of the Sentema campus, a project he treats as both a professional responsibility and a personal mission.

“For me, Sarah’s projects are my projects. I approach them with care, love, and passion because I know they are my ‘sister’s’ dream. If her goals are achieved, I win too,” Paddy shared.

With over a decade of experience across Uganda and abroad, combined with a deep-rooted connection to Action in Africa’s mission, Paddy embodies the full circle of AIA’s vision of investing in young people who, in turn, uplift their communities.
