Journey to University: Racheal
My name is Nabatanzi Racheal, and at 20 years old, I carry the hopes of my family with me. Growing up in a household of seven children—three girls and four boys—I have witnessed firsthand the struggles our parents face to provide an education for all of us. While my academic journey has been marked by many challenges, everything changed when I found Action in Africa. They have not only given me an opportunity but have made the dream of education accessible and achievable for me. I believe that very soon, after this internship, I will be joining university.
I am thrilled to share that I am part of the 2026 Action in Africa Internship Cohort. This is more than just an internship. It is a transformative journey where I am mastering the skills that will define my future. I am gaining invaluable experience in team dynamics, public speaking, and career guidance. This internship is a vital chapter in my personal and professional growth, and I look forward to the many lessons still to come.
My journey with Action in Africa began in 2019 through the Primary Partnership Program (PPP) at Victorious Junior School. This opportunity opened the door for me to attend Mbazzi Riverside High School for my secondary education on AIA’s Secondary Scholarship.
The transition was life-changing. I benefited from a much stronger learning environment compared to my primary years, where we did not have enough professional teachers. At Mbazzi, I had access to nutritious meals, modern accommodation, and essential learning tools such as a library and computers. Most importantly, the teachers were incredibly supportive and friendly, creating an environment where I felt comfortable and fully focused on my studies.
I am driven by a passion to advocate for girls’ empowerment and to set a standard of excellence for my siblings. My goal is to demonstrate through action that women can contribute significantly to society. My time with Action in Africa has equipped me with a diverse technical skill set, including arts, craft-making, public speaking, and interpersonal communication. My commitment to growth is reflected in my hobbies, which include community volunteering, baking, and exploring different cultures through travel.
With a strong foundation in Mathematics, Economics, and Geography (MEG), and having earned 10 points at A-Level, I am eager to embrace my next academic milestone. My goal is to join Makerere or Kyambogo University to study Information and Communication Technology (ICT), a field I believe is essential for driving digital transformation in my community. Beyond my career, I aspire to start my own business and become a pillar of financial support for my family.
I am profoundly grateful to Action in Africa for this internship. It rescued me from a period of uncertainty at home and gave me a clear sense of purpose. Before, I would be idle at home, struggling to find what to do. This experience is not just a placement, it is a launchpad for my future as an entrepreneur and a leader.
Thank you for believing in my potential. May God bless you.
