Journey to University: Imran
I am Ssekabembe Imran, a proud member of the 2026 Internship Cohort at Action in Africa. Having specialized in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics from Riverside High school Mbazzi , I am firmly on the path toward my goal of pursuing a degree in Medicine and Surgery or Pharmacy at Kampala International University. My ultimate ambition is to become a doctor or a Pharmacist, leveraging my expertise to give back to my community through dedicated and compassionate healthcare.
I express my gratitude to Action in Africa, the organization that fundamentally changed the direction of my life. I joined Action in Africa family in 2019 through the Primary Partnership Program (PPP) at Real Infant Nursery School Nakuwadde, and I have been a fortunate beneficiary of their generous scholarship programs ever since then, joining university on their support. My journey to this point was not an easy one. Growing up in a humble household meant I often had to work hard to secure every opportunity. While financial constraints repeatedly threatened to frustrate my aspirations, it was my mother who instilled in me an unwavering love for education despite our poverty.
Before joining Action in Africa, I faced numerous challenges. I had to juggle multiple part-time jobs like selling eggs on the streets, delivering goods to customers, and visiting construction sites, performing traditional dance at parties to make ends meet, often sacrificing precious study time to work and support my family. There were moments when I felt like giving up, when the weight of my responsibilities seemed too much for me to bear. But I persevered, driven by the hope of a better future. Despite the odds against me, my determination and resilience paid off when I received the Secondary Scholarship from Action in Africa, which was in 2019. Action in Africa's support has been a game-changer, enabling me to focus on my studies without the burden of financial worries.
The beautiful programs provided by the center have not only equipped me with knowledge and skills but also instilled in me a sense of purpose and belonging. Programs like counseling and guidance, traditional dancing, plus debate sessions which boosted my confidence and public speaking skills, and I hope more to come during Internship. As I reflected on my journey, I was filled with gratitude for the team at Action in Africa. Their unwavering support has given me the chance to pursue my dreams, and I wish to become a Pharmacist or Surgeon. I am determined to make the most of it.
Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future. Your support has been a beacon of hope and light in my life. May the Almighty God bless you abundantly. I hope to inspire others who may be facing similar challenges. I know that with the right support and determination, anyone could overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. I hope this story captures the essence of my journey and my gratitude to Action in Africa.
