Journey to University: Gloria

We are delighted to introduce Gloria Nabulime, the first alumna to secure a job opportunity at Action in Africa after graduation. Currently serving as our Youth Programs Assistant, Gloria joined the organization in 2023 as an Education Programs Aide and was promoted to her new role in 2025.

In her current position, Gloria ensures student safety on the organization's premises by supervising activities, addressing hazards, and coordinating with staff to enforce safety protocols. She also records and tracks student attendance across all education programs, ensuring data is updated daily. In addition, she is responsible for making sure that all AIA-owned equipment at partner schools, such as weighing scales and porridge supplies, is properly accounted for, maintained, and stored.

Gloria is one of the alumni who joined Action in Africa at a young age, beginning in Primary Five at St. Johnson Primary School in Nakuwadde. In 2011, she joined St. Edwards College Ggalamba for O-Level and later attended Central College Nakuwadde for A-Level through AIA’s Secondary Scholarship. She then enrolled at Kampala International University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and Social Administration in 2023 through AIA’s University Scholarship Program.

She brought with her vast skills and experience, including time spent volunteering with Hope for Justice in the role of Field Social Worker, where she helped rescue and rehabilitate children back into their families. “When I was called, obviously I had to withdraw other assignments and work for my family AIA because it is a sign of paying back.”

As a child, Gloria was a consistent presence at The Center, drawn to programs such as dancing, reading, singing, and drama. These helped enhance her reading skills, build her confidence, and improve her ability to relate to peers: skills that were invaluable during both her internship and university experience.

“I am applying the skills I got during the Holiday Program promptly,” Gloria said. “If I had not engaged in public speaking and confidence development programs, I could not face kids right now. I would be shy, yet kids are my centre of duty.”

She specifically praised the pre-university AIA Internship Program, which helped her shape her educational and professional path. Looking ahead, Gloria aspires to create impactful programs that drive community development. She also hopes to pursue a master's degree in a related field and form partnerships that will benefit Nakuwadde and beyond.

Lastly, she expressed deep appreciation for AIA’s support and mentorship from primary school to today. She shared a heartfelt thank you to Executive Director Sarah Nininger: “Aunt Sarah, we have come a long way together, and we are still moving forward in the same crew. In my capacity, I promise to do my best in fulfilling Action in Africa’s values and make them shine out there as an employee of purpose.”

Gloria encourages fellow beneficiaries to stay committed to their goals, saying, “Allow books, discipline and fear of the Lord to lead their journey.”
