David Masiko, UG Country Director
David Masiko serves as Action in Africa’s Uganda Country Director. With more than 20 years of professional experience in program leadership, organizational development, and humanitarian response, David brings both expertise and heart to this role.
Before joining Action in Africa, David was the Managing Partner and Chief Strategist at Butali Consulting and Advisory Services Ltd. His career also includes serving as the Country Representative for the Against Malaria Foundation, International Consultant with the International Federation of the Red Cross, and Programme Manager (Health Rights Advocate) with the development arm of the Anglican Church of Uganda. Across these roles, he has gained deep experience in monitoring and evaluation, risk management, resource mobilization, and building impactful programs that improve lives.
David earned a Master’s Degree in Human Rights Law from Uganda Martyrs University in 2015 after completing a Bachelor’s in Social Sciences at Makerere University. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Project Planning and Management, along with additional training in Human Resource Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, and related fields.
His passion for working with women and children stretches back to 2003, when he first volunteered with children in under-resourced communities. Since then, he has remained committed to youth and women’s empowerment, and is motivated by seeing tangible, positive change in the lives of those he serves.
Residing in Uganda with his wife, Sarah Ashimwe (not to be confused with Action in Africa’s founder and Executive Director, Sarah Nininger), and their three children—Seth, Eden, and Jordan—David values family as deeply as his professional work. Outside of the office, he enjoys long-distance cycling, a passion that allows him to maintain his health and connect with communities across Uganda. A former basketball player at both high school and professional club level, he now proudly supports his son who is following in his footsteps on the court.
David looks forward to building on Action in Africa’s strong foundation to expand programs, strengthen internal systems, and grow a team that is inspired, efficient, and impactful. “What AIA provides is a great opportunity for me to be part of a story of transformation,” he shares. “Together, we can expand our reach and change more lives.”
