Celebrating Diana Namagala on International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day is more than just a date on Action in Africa’s calendar; it’s a whole month to look at the faces of the young women who have been transformed through our collective efforts. Today, we celebrate with pride as we shine a spotlight on AIA University Scholarship Student Diana Namagala.

The Journey to Excellence

Diana is currently in her final year at Makerere University, pursuing a Bachelor of Social Sciences. However, her journey with AIA started long before she walked the halls of Uganda’s oldest institution. As a student who has been part of our programs from the Secondary Scholarship Program through to her university years, Diana has shown that thriving is all about the determination and courage to keep moving forward.

Her story is a powerful testament to what happens when ambition meets opportunity. As an AIA-supported student, she has spent years proving that being a "girl child" isn't a label of limitation, but a powerhouse of potential.

Professional Success Before Graduation

While many students spend their final year worrying about what comes after graduation, Diana has already secured her seat at the table. Following a successful internship with Corporate Training Program Africa (CTPA)—a premier professional institution dedicated to empowering East African professionals—Diana made herself indispensable.

She was officially retained for a permanent role as Programs Coordinator, where she maintains project timelines and ensures all scheduled tasks stay on track. She serves as a bridge between the team and the Director by relaying feedback and issues while managing the post-assessment process by organizing and finalizing marks and streamlining internal group communication to improve collaboration.

Finding Her Voice

During a recent one-on-one reflection, Diana commended the AIA programs that helped her excel. She highlighted how the Center gave her the courage to find her voice and the tools to speak with authority.

“I used to struggle with public speaking, but the holiday sessions at the Center gave me the skills to lead," Diana noted. "Beyond technical skills, I bring a deep sense of empathy to my work. As an intern at CTPA, I was given the responsibility of managing 22 other interns. Because of the leadership foundation AIA gave me, I was the only one from that group retained for a permanent staff position. I can now express my opinions boldly and represent the potential of the girl child.”

A Vision for the Future

Diana represents the core of our mission: when you empower a girl from the start, she builds a career before she even graduates. Her success is a win for every girl at our Center and the community of Nakuwadde at large.

Diana remains deeply committed to social development and grassroots change. “I am driven to tackle the social issues facing our community," she says. "My goal is to advocate for a unified approach to promoting the value of the girl child. After my studies, I plan to collaborate with NGOs and the government to combat gender-based violence, fight for equality, and champion human rights. I am ready to be a voice for my community.”

Our Commitment

Diana, your Action in Africa family is standing behind you, cheering louder than ever. We are so excited to witness the lasting impact you are destined to make.

This Women’s Day, AIA remains more committed than ever to ensuring every girl has the support she needs to reach her final year and soar far beyond it.

Be a part of the transformation. Join us as we empower the next generation of girls in Nakuwadde and beyond. We are thrilled by every person who joins our cause to turn dreams into reality.
