Here is our new and improved monthly update; curated specifically for you. Below are intimate updates of all that happened at The Center during July. Thank you to Rebecca and our team in Uganda for compiling all the content. We hope you enjoy.

With love and gratitude,
The Action in Africa Team
Secondary Scholarship Program
This month we attended visitation days at Light Secondary School and Central College. We loved stopping by to visit our scholarship students who are in boarding and live at school during the school year. We were able to surprise them with sodas and cookies!

Primary Partnership Program
This month, Artined facilitated a debate with All Saints P.5 Class, challenging the students to think about how combatting child abuse has led to the sustainable development of Uganda. Our students delivered powerful and thought-provoking responses in front of everyone, working on their public speaking while articulating their beliefs.

Additionally, during another one of Artined's programs at The Center, Jenna, our new Country Director, was able to connect with a shy child over their mutual fluency of Swahili. Jenna is super excited to work with this student in developing his English reading skills since his first language is Swahili and getting him up to speed with the rest of his classmates.
University Scholarship Program
Three of our scholarship recipients Courage, Latifah, and Joan wrapped up their 6-month internships with AIA in July! Courage Mugisha is attending Clarke University to pursue a Degree in Clinical Health, Latifah Mirembe is attending Muteesa Royal University to pursue a Bachelors in Business Administration, and Joan Ndagire is attending Makerere University to pursue a Bachelors in Business Administration. We are so excited for them and wish them all the best of luck as they begin classes next week!
Adult Education Program
This month, Juliana our Director of Adult Education and Special Events, has been working hard to identify benchmarks of success for each of her classes and preparing them for a big test they have in a few weeks. We are grateful for all the hard work Juliana puts into her position and proud of the progress she is making with the Adult English students.
Women to Women
We are grateful for the officers of the Bulenga Police Station who stopped by mid-July to share safety information and advice with our Women's group. We also had a lot of laughs and thoughtful conversations throughout the month as the Women to Women members tried out new ice breakers and connected with one another.
Muganda Moms
July was busy time for our Muganda Maamas as they worked hard to complete and pack lots of new merchandise! Special shoutout to Maama Kato (pictured above) who has begun taking computer classes with our new IT expert, Eric! She's so eager to learn and we are really excited to see her skills develop.
Special Events
So many of our incredible AIA staff members celebrated birthdays in July including Mama Melan our Head Chef, Lawrence our Driver, Gardner, & Center Handyman Extraordinaire, and Jenna Thompsen our new Country Director. There were lots of laughs, smiles, 'Happy Birthday' songs, and cakes to celebrate.

Special Visitors
July brought several visitors to our Center including officers from the Bulenga Police Station, all our university scholarship students, and Mr. Samson Wambuzi. Samson is the co-founder of Yiya Solutions - a Ugandan non-profit that specializes in providing experiential STEM workshops for secondary school students. We hope to collaborate with Yiya during our next Holiday Program!
We are saddened to share the news that two community members, the mother of one of our students and a beloved teacher at Mbazzi Riverside, have passed away. We appreciate your thoughts and condolences at this time.
Superstars of the Month
We have two superstars this month: Kim and Vincent! Kim is our new intern and we are so impressed with his punctuality and "can do" attitude. All month he has always been one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave! Vincent (pictured) has quickly become a new go-to boda drive for the PPP, Secondary School Scholarships, and Special Needs Program. He has been consistently punctual (even early!). We are very impressed and thankful to have a reliable mode of transportation.
New Table Alert!
Check out the pic below to see the beautiful new tables at The Center. Our staff are so excited to be able to hold more meetings, lunches, and workshops outside.
