Give Your Shoes a Second Life:

Donate Your Athletic Shoes By April 17th

-Quick Facts-

Over 10 schools will be hosting a shoe drive to benefit Africa.

The drive is sponsored by Action in Africa, From Our Feet and Project Active.  The drive will end on April 17th; shoes will be shipped on April 21st.

On April 22nd (Earth Day) there will be an event for all who participated in the drive. This event will be held at Palo Alto High school.

‘From Our Feet” will be providing boxes for shipping.  On average 32 adult pair of shoes and 60 pairs of children’s shoes fit in each box.

All athletic shoes are welcome- shoes in poor condition and shoes that are too big are recycled and made into playing surfaces through the Nike Grind Program.

What Will Happen?

Your school will be one of many schools in the bay area that will be participating in a shoe drive. You will be collecting and sorting athletic shoes that will be distributed to the world’s impoverished.

Before the Drive
Be clear that:

1. We will only be collecting athletic shoes.

2. Encourage donators to tie like pairs together.

(This saves everyone time and effort)

3.  All athletic shoes are accepted.

4.  Shoes in poor shape will be recycled

During the Drive
Sort out for Recycling:

1. Shoes in obvious ill-repair (holes, worn through the sole)

2. Shoes over size 12.

For shoe that will be reused:

1. Tie together like pairs that aren’t tied together.

2.  Separate adult and children’s shoes

3.  Separate soccer cleats

After the drive:

1. Bring all shoes to Palo Alto High School for recycling and shipping.

2. Find some one with a truck to help.  You will have a lot of shoes.

What Is Required?

1. You need a drop off zone or multiple areas for students to drop off shoes at.

2. You need advertising of the event (flyer included, make copies)

Athletic shoes and sport styled shoes only: Soccer, Basketball, Cleats,

Running, etc
